First-in-the-Family Education Fund

Ivy Fung (BA), immersed herself in her interest - documentary production when she went on exchange to Northwestern University in Chicago, which was her very first trip outside of Hong Kong. She had an internship in Kindling Group, a Chicago-based documentary media company, to further her pursuits in visual journalism. Her first documentary “Chicago's Smoothest” was awarded “Best of Medill” at her exchange university. “For the first time, I left home for months and saw the world from the other end. This experience not just changed me, but it made my pursuit in creative storytelling stronger - and for that I am genuinely grateful to the First-in-the-Family Education!”

Inclusive Education Fund

Josy Chow (BA) was born with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a genetic disorder that results in limited mobility and difficulties in breathing and swallowing. “It takes me 3 to 4 weeks to finish a 2000-word essay assignment on a computer. To take an exam, I need to recite the answers to a university staff member who helps me by typing everything out.” An Inclusive Education Fund supported Josy’s acquisition of a suitable wheelchair, and covers other costs related to her learning and transportation.
