Renowned author, Ms Eunice Lam Yin-nei 林燕妮 (MPhil), initiated a charity book sale in July 2011 to support research on Microbiology. Around 1,000 rare books written by Ms Lam were sold and all the profits generated were donated to the Department of Microbiology for research purposes.
A cheque presentation was held in August 2011 to acknowledge the donation made by Ms Lam. At the ceremony, Ms Lam showed her concern about public health threats caused by the genetic mutations of numerous viruses in recent years. She hoped that, by collective effort, more resources can be devoted to scientific research for the good of humankind.
