Professor N R Aluru and Professor Kam-biu Luk have been appointed as the first holders of the Hung Hing Ying Distinguished Visiting Professorship in Science and Technology.

Professor Kam-biu Luk from the University of California, Berkeley, USA, is a world leader in experimental particle physics. He is a leading figure of the largest US-China collaborative project in basic science, the Daya Bay Anti-neutrino Experiment, and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society.

Professor N R Aluru from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, USA, is a world-class expert on multi-physics and multi-scale modelling of micro and nano-scale systems. His work is highly interdisciplinary, involving coupling between mechanics, electrostatics and quantum mechanics.

Hung Hing Ying Distinguished Visiting Professorship in Science and Technology was established with a generous HK$20 million donation from the Hung Hing Ying & Leung Hau Ling Charitable Foundation. The donation was matched by the University dollar for dollar to form a permanent endowment. The Professorship aims to attract top academics in the fields of science and technology to spend time at HKU over a span of two to three years. Through a longer term of commitment, our teachers and students will have more opportunities to interact with world-class scholars, thereby enabling the scheme to create greater impact.
