Mr Cao Zhen-liang 曹振梁 (MSc(CompSc) 2010), a young alumnus who recently joined the workforce, made a donation of $10,000 to the First-in-the-Family Education Fund (第一代大學生助學金). This donation will make it possible a fellow HKU student (師弟/師妹)to take part in enriched learning activities throughout his/her university life, notwithstanding the financial constraints.

Zhen-liang’s parents, who were deprived of receiving a higher education due to financial difficulties, believe that education can change one’s life and wish there could be more opportunities for young people receiving a tertiary education. Therefore, it was with the utmost support of his parents that Zhen-liang made this donation to show the family’s gratitude towards the University. But more importantly, they hope to see more young people making the most out of their university education and embarking on their life journey with a brighter future.

The First-in-the-Family Education Fund was launched in 2008 with the aim of creating equal learning opportunities for students from grass-root families and who are the first generation in their families to attend university.
