Class of 1987 celebrates its Silver Jubilee by supporting students for overseas exchange

March 2012

The Special Fundraising Screening of “A Simple Life” (桃姐) was held in March 2012 as the kick-off event of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Class of 1987. Over HK$1,000,000 was raised. The Fund will go towards Scholarships for Student Exchange which facilitates financially-challenged students to widen their international learning experience and exposure through the HKU worldwide exchange programme.

Ms Wendy Gan (BA 1987), the Convenor of the Class of 1987 Silver Jubilee Celebrations, said at the ceremony that she had always enjoyed her university life. Nevertheless, she regretted that she had never been on an exchange programme during her studies. To commemorate this significant Silver Jubilee year, she hoped that through this collective effort in support of the student exchange, a difference can be made in the lives of the future leaders.

HKU’s Silver Jubilee Class Reunion is a unique tradition for alumni to rekindle old ties after a quarter of century and to express their views on their alma mater’s future direction. The Class of 1987, at its Silver Jubilee, would like to reminisce about the wonderful years spent at the University and contribute to the learning experiences of current students which help to prepare them as leaders in the future.
