The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and YiFan (HK) Public Welfare Foundation Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant milestone in their collaborative efforts to promote academic research, talent development, and innovative practices in visual culture.

The signing ceremony was officiated by Professor Yang Wang, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Institutional Advancement) of HKU, together with representatives from YiFan (HK) Public Welfare Foundation Limited. Attendees also included Professor David Pomfret, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Professor Stephen Chu, Director of the Centre for Advanced Study of Visual Culture (CVC) of HKU.

At the ceremony, Professor Wang expressed his sincere gratitude to YiFan (HK) Public Welfare Foundation Limited for its generous support. He remarked that the donation reflects the shared values of dedication to the research and development of visual culture in the region, and will consolidate HKU’s vision as " A world-leading university transforming humanity’s future," while also promoting research, internationalization, and interdisciplinarity.

Professor David Pomfret remarked that amid the ongoing technological transformation of society, Hong Kong and HKU are well positioned to host debates that will generate new interdisciplinary research on the role of visual culture in the age of Ai. The newly established Centre within the School of Chinese will foster research across fields like film and television culture, trans-Asian visual culture, and digital humanities. In this way it will also showcase the special value of the humanities and their role in the University’s mission.
